“Surpass every trial that God gives you with a smile on your face.” These are magic words, very important to me, that encouraged me many times in my life. Because of the person that told them to me I am where I am.
I had a though childhooh, and the life that I had until now was, also, very hard and sad, but, equally, full of love and happiness. I was living with my mother in a small, poor village. My father died of a terrible disease when I was two. We barely managed to live decently with the money that she got, but she was always trying to make me happy. I did my best to help her with what I could do. I liked to sing very much and she said that only hearing my voice would make her happy. Every evening I sang her favourite song.
One day, when we were in the square, I heard a pure, beautiful voice. It almost took me flying to the place where it came from. When I arrived there I saw a girl who was about five years older than me. She had light golden skin, emerald eyes and a reddish shiny hair, that was falling gently on her sholders. Her song seemed to me that was stole from a dream, that nobody would want to end.
When it was over all the people there were praising her and asking her if she could sing another song; but the girl said that the next day she had to leave and she had to go to sleep. When she was walking she passed close to me and, accidentally our looks met; then she smiled to me. That day I was very happy and I wished I could be like that girl when I grew up.
That night, my “idol” appeared in my dream. Her voice was as splendid as it was in the square. Since I woke up I couldn’t help, but thinking about her song. Altought I couldn’t remember the lyrics very well I wanted to sing it, and hopefully perfect it for my mother.
When I was trying this, someone, who was watching me until then, in my garden, started to sing alongside me. At first I didn’t know who was she, but I liked that feeling; singing with somebody was, that time, like our souls became one, and now it’s the same.
When I opened my eyes the beautiful girl from the other day was standing before me. I couldn’t belive my eyes.
'Go… Good Morning!'
'Good morning, young girl! she said smiling. Your voice is very cute, I really liked singing with you.'
'Really? Thank you very much!'
'Don’t mention it! You were in the square yesterday, weren’t you?'
'Yes. Your song is very beautiful, miss!'
'Thanks! May I ask your name?'
'S… Sure! I’m Lucy.'
'I see, your name is as adorable as you are! Nice to meet you Lucy, I’m Emerald.'
When I receved this compliments I became very nervous and I couldn’t speak normally.
'Nice to meet you, too! Your name fits very well with your beautiful eyes.'
'Thank you again!'
When she heard that I was talking with someone mother came out from the house.
'Lucy, what are you doing? Why don’t you invite your friend inside?'
'Mum, she’s not my friend! How could she befriend a kid like me?! She’s the singer from yesterday and she helped me sing her song', I whispered to her.
'Oh, you’re the girl who was singing in the square. I would like you to come have a cup of tea, but I bet you are too busy to chat with some poor people like us.'
'No, that’s not true. I’d like a cup of tea if it’s not a bother.'
'Then come in!'
We came inside and mother served us some tea.
'My name is Emerald. It’s a pleasure to meet the mother of such a talented child!'
'Thank you! I also love her voice. I would like her to become a singer, unfortunately… it’s impossible for us.'
'I see… A few minutes ago we sang together one of my songs and I really liked how it sounded. If you’d like, could you let her come with me in this tour? Our car suffered a breakdown so I had to stay in this village for the nisht. I doubt that you would trust me so easily, but…'
'If she wants I’m not against this idea, and you seem a kind person. So, what do you think, Lucy?'
I was very shocked when I heard the proposal, and I really wanted to go, but I was worried about my mother.
'I… I’m sorry, I can’t go!'
'You’re worried about your mother’s life, aren’t you? Then, I can help her with what she needs.'
'Really? Thank you very much! I would love to go!'
'I hope that your dream can come true. I suppose you know that it will be hard, but even if I don’t know you for much time I think you can do it! I’m looking forward to work with you. I will come later to pick you up! See you then!'
That day my life was completely changed. I fell very happy, I fell I could fly! I can’t describe the happiness that was within my soul.
However, after I left I was so busy that I couldn’t return home, so I communicated with the person that I loved the most only through letters. She always worte “Surpass every trial that God gives you with a smile on your face.” at the end of the message. A few years later I finally made some time to return home and to surprise mother; but when I arrived, I found out from the neighbours that she passed away; she had the same disease as father. Maybe if I were there she wouldn't die, but it was too late to do something. That was the hardest time in my life.
Emerald, who became my best friend, helped me a lot after the shock. And with her and other people’s aid I was able to fulill my dream, and I’m very grateful to them now.
Everytime I’m on the scene I sing for my fans, but especially for my mother that is, surely, always listening to my songs.
